I believe that the government should play a heavier role in immigration, for many reasons. One, illegal immigrants are unable to pay taxes, for reasons such as being paid under the table, and not being known to the government. This costs the government valuable taxpayer money. Second, immigrants often are unable to speak English. By not making learning English a requirement, our country heritage is slowly fading, with Spanish on its way to being more spoken than English in as little as 20 years. Thirdly, it keeps the US safer, by not allowing potentially dangerous people across the border. In conclusion, the government should more closely regulate immigration, because it keeps the economy in better condition, it preserves the country heritage, and it keeps the US safe from potentially dangerous people.
